What Life Changes Can Teach Us About Ourselves

Rarely do we sell our house, get in a motor home and drive over 3,000 miles to get to our new home, AND on the way, make some amazing memories and see some beautiful sights. Our country is full of good-hearted, talented and kind people. We were privileged to meet them and to have this experience. It’s one of those “Once in a lifetime” experiences, and thus, it is definitely a road less traveled!! This excerpt from my journal, talks about how I see the world, make connections and what touches me. I hope you enjoy… but before you do just a brief announcement!

We are on the road again. It was freezing at the Grand Canyon and the heater stopped working. We went to bed early to stay warm, and so we got up at 4:35am and left by 5am. We are passing through the Navajo reservation right now. The scenery is majestic. We called road service about the heat, and found out that in freezing temperatures it doesn’t work! That is pretty ironic – a heater that doesn’t heat when it’s cold!

We had a lovely day yesterday. J bought me a surprise gift, so sweet, and we enjoyed getting along. We did stay warm despite the chill in the air. Learned about the Kolb brothers and their house on the edge of the Canyon. What a legacy they left! We had a lovely lunch and dessert at the hotel there. I noticed the native shop keepers were angry and almost sullen as they eyed us when we passed by. They seemed like they were trapped in a B Movie or Western — tolerating the dumb tourists who have money but no sense.

The road to Page is gorgeous. The land forms speaks to us as if we are connected to them in some ancient and concrete way that activates some sort of recognition on our part. We feel connected to it and guided by it. Time melts away and all that is left is the now.

When the day is young, I feel young – it is full of possibility – enchantment – opportunity. I find myself asking “what’s next?” God speaks to me in the vastness of this silence. It’s not even in words, it’s in the vibration as the sun rises on the plateau. I’m here. I was here. I will always be here.

There is a duality in my existence that I can’t articulate. I direct it but am directed by it at the same time. Wake up! I get to wake up and love and be loved. I get to experience the richness of life. I get to give back in kind. I get to leave a goodness, a breath of heaven, everywhere I go.

We asked for a sign to help us choose which way to go – “McDonald’s Page” showed up. LOL!! Only we would get the joke. I lived on egg mcmuffins when I was pregnant with my girls. My girls.

I never thought I would get to be a mom, but I did it. I never thought I would publish, but I did it. I never thought I would graduate from college, but I did it. I never thought I’d be a black belt, but I did it.  I’ve had many firsts, because I took action.

That’s the lesson of learning – you have to apply it otherwise you are just living a movie in your head. And life doesn’t seem real. You manifest what you most desire. Period. Being here – on the road – with my husband and daughter is such a great blessing. Even our kitties are doing well…

And you can too.
